Eddie Earl’s Obituary
10/10/1932 – 10/05/2024
Mr. Eddie Earl, Jr., a longtime resident of Detroit, Michigan; formerly a resident of Mobile, Alabama was born on October 10, 1932, to Mrs. Eva Finley. He was immediately adopted as a newborn baby boy, by Mr. Eddie and Mrs. Sarah Earles.
Mr. Earl passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday October 5, 2024, at his home in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was lovingly surrounded by his daughters Crystal Wilson and Eden Earl. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mrs. Wilhemina Earl, daughter, Ms. Doretta Earl, grandson, Mr. Gabriel Earl, brother, Mr. Donald Finley and sister Ms. Donna Finley.
Known for his loveable heart and infectious laughter, Eddie loved his family and his in-laws. He loved all his sons, daughters, nieces, nephews and friends. To know Eddie was to love Eddie!
Mr. Earl accepted Christ at an early age at Cedar Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Percy L. Ely.
Eddie was married to his beloved wife, the Late Wilhemina Wilson. The apple of his eye, Eden Earl, was born during their union. Earlier, in 1953 he married Josey Gamble, and to that Union was born his late daughter Doretta, son Phillip and daughter Ivy. He later welcomed a son Eleazar Bennett.
Although Eddie never finished high school, he had wonderful careers that spanned over 70 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, served as a merchant marine, and worked at Alabama State Docks. After moving to Detroit, he worked for Kelsey Hayes, supporting the car manufacturing industry. Eddie served as a security guard, then owned his own tow trucking business before his retirement in Detroit.
Eddie will always be remembered by his family and friends for his kind and loving spirit. Always willing to do whatever he could for someone in need.
He leaves many to cherish his loving memory, including his sons, Phillip (Cecelia) Earl, Sr. and Eleazer Bennett; daughters, Ivy (Clarence, Jr.) Carter, Eden Earl, Crystal (Clarence) Wilson, Michelle Wilson; grandsons, Phillip Earl, Jr. and Clarence Carter, III; granddaughters, Heitherzs Davis, Rosalyn Clark, Sarah Carter and Mariah Earl; great-grandsons, Baryshnikov Davis, Rolando Davis, Devonte (Jazzlyn ) Strider, Tevin(Hannah) Lomax, Jordan Earl, Caleb Earl, Jarrod Davis, Jr., Blake Earl and Joshua Carroll; great-granddaughters, Kimberly Bell, Deajha Moore, Erica Moore, Heaven-Leigh Davis, Peyton Earl, Faith Clark, Leah Caroll, and Lydia Carroll ; great-great grandsons, Devonte Strider Jr., Tylen Sheppard-Lomax, Dantez Johnson, and Ayce McDuffie; great-great granddaughters, Sawyer Lomax, Kimora Johnson and Zuri Strider; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
His memory lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him, and his legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
